COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Is Camouflage Tattoo painful?Just like any other tattoo service, camouflage tattooing is not painless and tolerance for pain varies from client to client. This type of tattoo penetrates the epidermis (the outer layer of the skin) to deposit skin toned pigments (or scar rejuvenating serums) into scars/stretch marks, "camouflaging" the appearance of scars to blend with the surrounding healthy skin. With that said, Rachel Wright provides a comfortable and calming space that reduces clients nerves and allows for a positive camouflage tattoo experience.
-
How long do the Camouflage Tattoo results last?Everyone's skin and scar is so different and results very for every client. Just like any other tattoo, the results are mostly permanent. Touchups may be required as the skin changes and ages, but are in no way frequent. With proper at-home after care and regular touchups, results can last for many years to come.
-
How do I know when my scar/stretch marks are ready for Camouflage Tattooing?Scars/stretch marks must be completely healed before ready for camouflage tattooing. Typically healing scars will start pink (or brownish due to hyperpigmentation) and will gradually fade as the scar continues to heal. This can take 6 months to a year or even more. Recommendations can be made to assist the healing process, but really, it just takes time. Ideally, healed scars should be white, light or hypo-pigmented (lack of color) so skin toned pigment can be deposited to "camouflage" hypo-pigmented scars with the surrounding healthy skin.
-
What is the healing process for Camouflage Tattooing?I'm not going to lie, camouflage tattooing and the healing process is a journey! Healed scars and stretch marks are considered to be "compromised skin". Penetrating skin tone pigments or scar rejuvenating serums will create a reaction that may present very red and inflamed on the treated scars/stretch marks. Fortunately, this reaction gets blood flowing through these compromised skin areas, encouraging healthy healing and new skin rejuvenation. Clients are provided with the necessary post camouflage tattoo after care and explicit instructions on exactly how to manage the healing process.

Can Camouflage Tattooing cover hyper-pigmented (dark scars)?Absolutely not! Camouflage tattooing penetrates and deposits skin toned pigments into scars and stretch marks that have a lack of color (hypo-pigmented). It does not cover on top of scars like concealer or makeup. Depositing light pigmented ink into dark scars to "brighten" is not apart of camouflage tattoo best practices and results can be very unpredictable. Recommendations can be appropriately given for lightening dark/hyper-pigmented scars with skin professionals who know this complex process best.
